Recently I read an article, about how a filmmaker was trying to raise funds for a feature that had to do with preserving Civil War history. Of course, they were hit with the backlash of the politically correct and became very discouraged. The entertainment business is brutal and we have to rise to the occasion. I am not stating we use violence. What I am saying is that we must toughen up, if we ever hope to be taken seriously or to be a success. We do not need Hollywood’s approval or the approval of the politically correct. What we need is the utmost faith in our own scripts. We need the belief that we have something of value to present to the world. Just because our Confederate history is slowly being removed in America, it doesn’t mean that there are not other countries who value it, even more then those here trying to destroy it.
If we hope to preserve our history for future generations, we have to press through and shake off the haters. They will hate and they will try to derail us. We have the choice to persevere or to give up. So, what’s it gonna be? The funds will come if we refuse to quit, and who knows, perhaps those who are trying to destroy our history will learn something and stop trying to erase what so desperately needs to stay!
Here at Summer Ray, it is not our intent to offend anyone. But, parts of history are offensive to both sides of the Civil War and there is nothing that I can do about that. I am not trying to preserve “slavery,” or “Northern aggression.” I am not trying to side with the North or the South. We are now the:
“United States of America and to the Republic – for which it stands….one Nation under GOD, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice FOR ALL!”
My allegiance is to America. Which, also includes the preservation of our American history – good or bad. It includes our Founding Fathers and the historical documents written to steer this country toward greatness. When there are those who are trying to erase even these patriotic foundings, such as the Constitution, we cannot sit idly by and let them tell us what we can and cannot film.
“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security .”
Declaration of Independence
It is also my right and my duty to preserve our American history, whether by film or by the written word. I will do so, and I will continue to do so, right in front of every Liberal or politically correct person who tries to stop me!
