THERE IS STILL BEAUTY!

Big Round Top Gettysburg, PA! It is where the story of Summer Ray began on February 09, 2009! You can’t see the hill but it’s there. I never get tired of hiking or driving up to it. I actually do it a lot. Normally in the snow, it’s a hike. But it is also a beautiful one. I do not recommend it though as it can be dangerous!

The point is, the Gettysburg battlefield and the story of Summer Ray are permanently imbedded in my heart. If they weren’t, I would have given up a long time ago and moved on to something else. But it isn’t just Gettysburg, is is my love for American history. I know that sounds horrible to some people. You love slavery? Of course not! What I love is people like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and the American spirit that is resilient. I have done extensive research on why the Civil War started. It was over 160 years ago and people are still at war over the “why” in modern day America. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that because of resilience, both the North and the South rebuilt, and the United States stayed one country. The story of Summer Ray, a lot American history is woven in. But it is also historical fiction. For instance, Unknown Soldiers are not walking around talking in real life. But here in Gettysburg and at many national cemeteries, there are Unknown Soldiers buried underneath numbers on a stone.

By using my imagination, I am able to honor them in the story of Summer Ray. I also want to “entertain people” to help them somehow destress, to be a light, or to let people know that Summer has struggles too. I always go back to what Stan Lee once stated:

I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing.

Stan Lee

He was never just a comic-book writer. He was a visionary who created a universe that brought happiness to billions of people. Grant it, we were all on the edge of our seats at times, and shed the same tears both happy and sad. But he is right. Entertainment – the good kind- the right kind- can help lift the world out of darkness. To have that depth of emotional attachment to a story, is something I pray for with Summer Ray. The pilot script has an emotional intensity score of 8/10. The analysis also proved the script is strongest as a series. Book two, Savannah’s Calling, is about to be finally published. But let me tell you. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I don’t remember the script being this hard. But to create a series, where each book has to build on the last with even more twists and turns, it’s extremely difficult. I may get weary of the work. But I never get weary of the story, or creating more of it. I think that is why I am still so drawn to Big Round Top. It helps to keep me focused. In the midst of war, there is still beauty on the battlefield.

In the midst of stress, pain, sadness, worry etc., there is still entertainment! I truly hope the story of Summer Ray can also do its part, to help lift the world out of that empty darkness. You are important to God. You are important to me! To check out the first book (2nd edition) please click below. Savannah’s Calling will be available shortly!

Thank you for being a part of OUR Summer Ray universe.
